On Saturday, 25th April, 2015, ANZAC Day was commemorated all around Australia as well as other parts of the world, particularly Gallipoli. Merewether had its own dawn service to commemorate the 100 years since the Gallipoli landing and to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of past and present Australian Defence Force troops. The service at Merewether was well attended and very well represented by Holy Family Primary School students and families. Thank you to all parents and families who braved the early rise, particularly after such a challenging week to support, acknowledge and show respect to our ADF and community in general. Thank you to our wonderful school captains – Joseph Howlett, Estelle Carmichael, Heath Sullivan and Emma Fallon – who did an exceptional job; one of which they, and their parents, should be very proud. The captains laid a wreath at the Mitchell Street, Memorial Gates then planted poppy seeds which should be in bloom by Remembrance Day. A gathering such as this reminds us of the importance of shared values and the essence of community. We also recognized the spirit of ANZAC with our own service at school. Photos can be seen in our photo gallery on this web site.
